Corporal William Upton entered theatre (France) after 1 January 1916. On 4 November 1918 the battalion took the village of Sebourg France. The people of the village welcomed them with food and drink. The men had chased the enemy for days and had taken the village easily but beyond was a ridge which the battalion tackled in the afternoon. The enemy lay in wait and caused many casualties from machine gun fire and one of these would be William. The last battle of the battalion cost over 50 dead and many more wounded. John Morse
