Father: Charles G. Strutt, born in 1863 at Oxton, Nottinghamshire, and employed as a butcher. Mother: Hannah Strutt, born in 1861 at Nether Broughton, Leicestershire. Brothers: George, born in 1892 and working as an electrical engineer, Charles, born in 1897 and Harold, born in 1900. Sisters: Mabel, born in 1887 and working as a cotton folder, Florence, born in 1889, Ethel, born in 1893 and working as a blouse hand and Katie, born in 1903. All the children were born in Nottingham. The family lived at 11 Davidson Street, Sneinton, Nottingham before moving to 11 Lyndhurst Road, Sneinton, Nottingham.
Rfn. Strutt attested in Nottingham on 13/06/1915 and he was posted to the Rifle Brigade in Winchester. He was involved in the fighting in the Ypres Salient and was killed on 23/11/1915. His body was never recovered for burial but his name was commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres.
In memoriam notice published 21st November 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “STRUTT. – In loving memory of Jack Strutt, killed in action November 21st, 1915.
