Father: Thomas Spibey, born in 1862 at Kinoulton, Nottinghamshire and working as a River Trent pilotman. Mother: Elizabeth Spibey, born in 1864 at Brant Broughton, Lincolnshire. Brothers: William, born in 1892 and working as a wood machinist, Thomas, born in 1894 and working as a packer and Arthur, born in 1896 and working as a monumental sculptor. All three were born in Cropwell Bishop, Nottinghamshire. Harold, was born in 1907 in Nottingham. Sisters: Annie, born in 1883 at Cropwell Bishop and working as a lace curtain folder, Mary, born in 1889 at Cropwell Bishop and working as a lace cutter, Amy, born in 1899 in Nottingham, Florry, born in 1901 in Nottingham and may, born in 1904 in Nottingham. The family lived at 6 Sutton Street, Meadows, Nottingham before moving to 37 Meadow Lane, Meadows, Nottingham.

Military History

Spibey was called up for service and following training was drafted to France. The battalion was in trenches at Le Verguier, which formed a protruding salient. When the men moved forward in the area they soon came under artillery fire and their were several casualties including Spibey who was killed in action. He was buried at Vadencourt British Cemetery, Maissemy.
