Family History

Frank was born in 1895 at Saxondale and was the son of George a farm labourer and Eliza Green of Needham Street Bingham. His father George was born in 1861 in Haseby, Lincolnshire and his mother Eliza was also born in 1861 in Upton, Lincolnshire. They were married in 1887 in Nottingham and went on to have the following children George b1888 Nottm, Ethel b1890 Aslockton, Mabel b1892, Bingham, Frank b1895 Saxondale and Charlie b1896 Saxondale. In the 1911 census the family are living on Grantham Road, Bingham and are shown as George 50 yrs a farm labourer he is living with his wife Eliza 50 yrs and their children Frank 16 yrs a bakers porter and Charles 13 yrs a bakers errand boy.

Military History

Private Frank Green enlisted at Nottingham and initially served with the service number 12425 in the Northumberland Fusiliers before being posted to the 9th battalion, Yorkshire Regiment. He was returned from the Western Front with complications of diseases, brought on by severe exposure and died on 27th April 1916 at the Queen Mary Hospital, Whalley, Lancashire he died of dysentery. His body was retuned to his family and he was buried in Bingham Cemetery.

In memoriam published 27th April 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “GREEN. — In loving of Private Frank Green, of Bingham. who died in Whalley Hospital, April, 27th, 1916.
