Mother: Mary A. Miller, born in 1873 at Leicester, was widowed. Brothers Willie, born in 1891, Thomas born in 1897 and George, born in 1900. All the children were born in Nottingham. The family lived on 23 Pipe Street, Nottingham before moving to 2, Rushton Terrace, Wells Street, St. Ann's Well Road, Nottingham.
Miller attested on 02/12/1914 and the next day was posted to 16th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. He was in trouble on three occasions during 1915 for being absent without leave. He was finally tried by courts marshall for desertion, and sentenced to eighty-four days detention, which he served in the Detention Barracks in Hereford. Finally on 30/01/1916 he sailed on the S.S."Caesarea" from Southampton to Le Havre. On 09/06/1916 he was admitted to 105 Field Ambulance with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was posted to the Labour Corps with No. 114286 on 16/05/1917 before finally being transferred to the West Riding Regiment. He was killed in action during the Third Battle of Ypres on 16/10/1917. His body was not recovered, but his name was commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
