Father: John F. Holloway, born 1847 at Oxton, Nottinghamshire, and work as a pavement layer. Mother: Fanny Holloway born in 1854 at Nottingham. Brothers: Robert F., born in 1878 at Nottingham, working as a pavement layer and Frederick, born in 1888, working as a pavement layer. Sisters: Annie, born in 1875 in Nottingham and working as a lace clipper and Mabel F., born in 1884 in Nottingham and working as an apron machinist. The family lived at 25 Campbell Street, Nottingham. Private Holloway was married in St Ann's Church, Nottingham on 25/07/1916 to Averilda Holloway, née Tidy and they lived at 28 Peas Hill Road, Nottingham. His brother, Fred, served in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers, and was killed on 8 July 1916.
Holloway attested on 10/12/1915 at Nottingham. He was mobilised on 13/04/1916 and posted to the Sherwood Foresters on 14/04/1916. He embarked for France on 05/08/1916, and joined 17th Battalion on 10/09/1916. He was attached to 117th Light Trench Mortar Battery and was killed in action during the Third Battle of Ypres on 10/09/1917. His body was never recovered, and his name was commemorated on the Tye Cot Memorial.
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged), 12 October 1917: 'Holloway. Killed in action September 20th, Lance Corporal (sic) G Holloway, Sherwood Foresters, of 25 Campbell Grove, age 32. Second son to fall. Father, mother, sisters, brother.'
