Family History

Father: Harry C. Cain, born 1858 at Luton and working as a packing case maker. Mother: Emma, born 1856 at Luton. Family lived at 16, Chequers Street, Luton before moving to 76 North Street, Luton. John Cain had two brothers; William, born in 1890 and Henry, born in 1893. He also had one sister, Ida, born in 1895. All the children were born in Luton. John was the husband of Eliza Cain and they lived at 25 Healey Street, Meadows, Nottingham. Following John Cain's death she remarried and became Mrs. Fawcett.

Military History

Pte. Cain was killed in action during the Battle of Arras, but his body was never recovered. His name, however, was commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
