Son of John & Mary Bush of 72 St. Michael's Avenue, Leicester. Married Nellie Rose Bush, nee Marshall in Leicester on 12/08/1909. They lived at 233 Humberstone Road, Leicester before moving to 114 Waterway Street, Nottingham. They had three children; Helen Muriel, born 16/01/1910, Mary Winifred, born on 06/06/1911 and John, born 05/01/1915
Pte. Bush attested on 10/12/1915 at Leicester, but was not mobilised until 14/10/1916, when he joined the Leicestershire Regiment. He was transferred to 2/4th Bn. York & Lancaster Regiment on 19/10/1916. Following training he was drafted to France on 13/01/1917. On 26/05/1917 he was admitted to 49th Casualty Clearing Station with acute periostitis and on 03/06/1917 he returned to England on the hospital ship "St. David," and was admitted to the Albert Hall Institute Hospital, Nottingham. His wound healed and he was then sent to Brackenhurst Hall Convalescent Hospital. He returned to France on 20/01/1918, embarking at Folkestone and arriving at Boulogne on 22/01/1918. He was caught up in the great German spring offensive Operation Michael and killed in action on 29/03/1918. His body was not recovered, but his name was commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
His wife received a pension for herself and her three children of 20s 7d.
