Family history

Wallace Allsopp was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of Kate Allsopp, born 1868 Marsh, Nottingham. Worked as lace clipper. Widowed. Moved to 72 Henry Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.

He also had three brothers; Edgar, born 1898, Herbert, born 1901 and Ernest, born 1909. All the children were born in Nottingham.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 8 Pierpoint Street, Nottingham his widowed mother Kate 43 yrs is a lace clipper she is living with her children, Wallace 17 yrs a dray boy, Edgar 13 yrs, Herbert 10 yrs and Ernest 3 years old.

Military history

Pte. Allsopp became professional soldier in 4th Bn Sherwood Foresters on 16/01/ 1912. He served at home until 11/11/1914 when embarked for France. He was posted to 2nd Bn. Sherwood Foresters, but he was killed in action 09/08/1915 during in fighting in the Hooge area. Casualties were especially heavy. Pte. Allsopp's body was not recovered but his name was commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
