Harry Wragg was born in 1887 at Nottingham and was the son of William a green grocer and his first wife the late Sarah Ann Wragg née Butler 22 Carlton Road, Nottingham. His father William was born in 1851 at Nottingham and his mother Sarah Ann Butler was born in 1849 at Sneinton, she died in 1895 aged 45 yrs, they had the following children, Mary b1874, William b1875, George b1889, Harry b1887, Cornelius b1889 and Albert b1891, all were born in Nottingham. His father re married in 1896 at Nottingham to Fanny Whittle Harry Wragg married Sarah Elizabeth Cousins (born 16th November 1885 ) in 1909 at Nottingham they lived at 8 Pym Terrace, Pym Street, Nottingham. In the 1911 census they are living at 7 Lowdham Place, Lowdham Street, Nottingham and are shown as Harry 24 yrs a hairdresser, he is living with his wife Sarah Elizabeth 25 yrs. In the same 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at 22 Carlton Road, Nottingham and are shown as William 60 yrs a green grocer, he is living with his second wife Fanny 59 yrs and his children, Cornelius 21 yrs a hair dresser and Albert 20 yrs a bobbin and carriage maker.
Private Harry Wragg, enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 1st July 1916 the first day of the Battle of the Somme , he has no known grave , his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 24 July 1916: WRAGG killed in action July 1st, Private Harry Wragg, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, husband of Lizzie Wragg (nee Cousins), hairdresser, late of 176 Gordon Road. His brother Cornelius Wragg attested on 12th December 1915 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 27 yrs and 1 month, he was living at 20 Carlton Road, Nottingham. he was a hairdresser and his next of kin was his wife Edith May of the same address. Posted to the reserves the following day he was mobilised for war on 28th October 1916 and was posted to the Yorks and Lancaster Regiment. He embarked from Southampton on 13th January 1917 landing the following day at Le Harve. He was transferred to the Royal Garrison Artillery on 29th January 1918 and was demobilised from the Army on 13th October 1919.
