Francis Joseph Waterhouse known as Frank was born in 1888 at St Pancras, London, he was baptised on 1st November 1888 at St John of Jerusalem, Hackney and was the son of Johnathan Saul Waterhouse a licensed victualler and Alice Waterhouse née Cole. His father Jonathan was born in 1847 at Owston Ferry, Lincolnshire, he died in 1897 at Poplar London, his mother Alice Cole was born in Doncaster in 1855, they were married in 1875 at Doncaster and went on to have the following children, Blanche Isabel b1878 Doncaster, John Saul b1885 St Pancras and Francis Joseph b1888 St Pancras. Following his fathers death his mother went on to re marry she married Arthur Athey in 1901 at Worksop, Nottingham, in the 1901 census the family are living at 15 Devon Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham, at this time Francis is now 13 yrs and working at a green grocers. His mother died in 1905 in Nottingham aged 50 yrs. In the 1911 census we find Francis Joseph is in the Army, he is serving with the 10th Hussars and is in barracks at India , he is shown as being 23 yrs of age and is single. At the time of his death his married sister Blanche Isabel Fielding of 40 Ridgdale Street, Bow London was his legatee

Military History

Private Francis Joseph Waterhouse had joined the Army prior to 1911, he was serving with the 10th Hussars in India at the time of the 1911 census. He served with the 10th battalion The Royal Hussars and was killed in action on 11th April 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
