Thomas Stevenson was born in 1895 at Nottingham and was the son of William a maltster and Hannah Stevenson née Hallam of 206 Gordon Road, Nottingham. His father William was born in 1870 at Sneinton and his mother Hannah Hallam was born in 1870 at Arnold, they were married in 1889 at Nottingham, they went on to have 11 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were , Ada b1890, William Henry b1893, Tom b1895, Phoebe Elsie b1897, William Edward b1899, Florence b1902, Ethel b1903, Ernest b1904 and James Oliver b1908, all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 206 Gordon Road, Nottingham and are shown as William 41 yrs a maltster, he is living with his wife Hannah 41 yrs and their children, Ada 21 yrs a pattern girl, William Henry 18 yrs a mineral water bottler, Tom 14 yrs a cape maker, Phoebe Elsie 14 yrs an errand girl, William Edward 12 yrs a scholar, Florence 9 yrs a scholar, Ethel 8 yrs a scholar, Ernest 7 yrs a scholar and James Oliver 3 yrs of age, also living at the address is Thomas Stevenson a widow a maltster 70 yrs age, he is a boarder.
Private Thomas Stevenson, enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 1st Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers, was killed in action on 14th August 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial Ypres, Belgium
His brother Private William Henry Stevenson attested on 12th December 1915 at Nottingham, he was 22 yrs and 11 months of age, his address was 6 Lincoln Place, Hyson Green, Nottingham his next of kin was his wife Phoebe of the same address. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised on 7th April 1916 at Nottingham, he was now 23 yrs and 108 days old, he was a foreman bottler. He embarked from England on 9th July 1916 and posted to the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment on 22nd July 1916. He was wounded in action on 7th August 1916 and died from his wounds on 15th August 1916 and is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
