Family History

John William Shelbourne was born in 1893 at Nottingham and was the only child of John and a brick layers labourer and Frances Shelbourne of 11 Hawksworth Street, Clarence Street, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1865 and his mother Frances was born in 1865 both were born in Sneinton, Nottingham, they were married C1893 In the 1911 census the family are living at 11 Hawksworth Street, Nottingham and were shown as John 46 yrs a brick layers labourer he is living with his wife Frances and their son John William 16 yrs a worker in the newspaper trade, John states he had been married for 18 yrs and has had 1 child. John William Shelbourne married Ellen Tuckwood born 8th June 1895 at Frog Island, Leicester, on 7th February 1917 at the Nottingham Register Office, they lived at 24 Loscoe Road, Carrington. Following his death his widow Ellen was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 10th June 1918.

Military History

Private John Shelbourne enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 26th September 1917. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial panel 99-102.
