Family History

Arthur Ernest Patrick was born on 27th August 1896 at Brooksby and was the son of William a stud groom and Bertha Patrick, née Pound of The Mount 74, St. Bartholomew's Rd., Nottingham. His father William was born in 1863 at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire and his mother Bertha Pond was born in 1872 at Bayswater, London, they were married in 1890 at Camberwell, London and went on to have 12 children, 4 of whom sadly died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children and were, Edith Mary b1891 Peckham, Norah b1893 Melton Mowbray, Alfred William b1895 Brooksby, Arthur Ernest b1896 Brooksby, Herbert b1899 Brooksby , Jeffrey b1900 Brooksby, Nellie b1900 Brooksby and Kate Lillian b1903 Brooksby, In the 1911 census the family are living at Kirby Hall Yard, Kirby Bellars, Melton Mowbray and are shown as William 48 yrs a stud groom, he is living with his wife Bertha 39 yrs and their children, Alfred William 16 yrs an apprentice hairdresser, Arthur Ernest 15 yrs a stable boy, Herbert 12 yrs a scholar, Jeffrey 11 yrs a scholar, Nellie 11 yrs a scholar and Kate Lillian 8 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Lance Corporal Arthur Ernest Patrick enlisted on 2nd September 1914 at Melton Mowbray , he gave his age as 19 yrs and 6 days, his address as Tanham House, Old Dalby, Leicestershire, he gave his occupation s that of a groom, his next of kin was his father William of the same address. He was posted to the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment he landed in France on 29th July 1915 and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 28th December 1916. He was killed in action on 5th October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
