Family History

Richard Oldham was born in 1891 at Nottingham and was the son of Robert a foreman for the Nottingham city council, and Clara Oldham née Hopcroft of 39 Hunt Street, Blue Bell Hill Road, Nottingham. His father Richard was born in 1869 at Nottingham, his mother Clara Hopcroft was born in 1871 also at Nottingham, they were married in 1892 a Nottingham they went on to have 7 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Harriett b1892, Richard b1899 and Robert b1900 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are residing at 182 Gordon Road, Nottingham and are shown as Robert 41 yrs a health foreman for the Nottingham city council, he is living with his wife Clara 39 yrs and their children, Harriett 19 yrs a lace manufacture frilling worker, Richard 12 yrs a scholar and Robert 11 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Lance Corporal Richard Oldham enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 5th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 20th July 1918 . Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial
