Frank Jones was born in 1899 at Nottingham and was the son of George William a house painter and Fanny Jones née Martin of 35, Ridgway Street, Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham. His father George William was born in 1865 at Altrincham, Cheshire, his mother Fanny Martin was born in 1866 at Nottingham, they were married in 1886 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Minnie b1886, George William b1887, John Arthur b1889, Joseph Ernest b1890, Florence Ann b1894 all were born in Altricham they had the following further children all of whom were born in Nottingham, Mary Alice b1896, Frank b1899, Nelly b1903 and Stanley b1905. In the 1911 census the family are living at 35 Ridgway Street, Nottingham and are shown as George William 46 yrs a house painter, he is living with his wife Fanny 45 yrs and their children, Minne 25 yrs a lace cutter out, Arthur 22 yrs a house painter, Ernest 21 yrs a pattern printer, Florrie 17 yrs a bleacher, Alice 15 yrs a blouse finisher. Frank 10 yrs a scholar, Nelly 8 yrs a scholar and Stanley years of age.
Private Frank Jones attested on 22nd February 1917 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 17 yrs and 214 days, his address was 35 Ridgeway Street, Nottingham, he was a house painter and his next of kin was his father George of the same address. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 25th August 1917 and reported to the Derby depot where he was placed into the training reserve. He was posted to the Durham Light Infantry on 24th December 1917. He embarked from Folkstone on 31st March 1918 and landed at Boulogne, he arrived at the Etaples depot on 2nd April 1918. He went missing in action between 27th and 29th May 1918 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial
His brother Private John Arthur Jones enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 28782 with the Leicestershire Regiment. He was serving with the 8th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment when he died of wounds on 20th November 1917. He is buried at Dozingham Military Cemetery, Belgium.
