Family History

John Henry Hill was born in 1876 at Nottingham and was the son of Thomas and Jane Hill of Nottingham John Henry married his wife Emma Akers Lovett on 1st October 1903 at the Nottingham Registry Office, they lived at 48 Henry Street, Sneinton Nottingham and had the following children, Julia Akers born 24th September 1905, Jenny Annie born 22nd April 1907 and George born in 1911. In the 1911 census the family are living at 48 Henry Street, Sneinton, they are living with his widowed father in law George Lovett and are shown as George Lovett 74 years a widow working in the hosiery trade, John Henry Akers 35 yrs a coal miner, Emma Akers Hill 35 yrs and their children, Julia Akers 5 yrs, Jane Annie 3 yrs and George 2 months of age. The family later lived at 220 Gordon Road, Nottingham and following John Henry death his widow Emma was awarded a pension of 21 shillings a week which commenced on 3rd May 1915.

Military History

Private John Henry Hill enlisted on 15th August 1914 at Nottingham, he had previous service with the 7th battalion Leicester Regiment, he had left as time served in 1908. He was posted to the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He was serving in the 3rd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment whilst training at Aldershot where on 9th September 1914 he died of pneumonia at Aldershot. He was buried at Aldershot Military Cemetery.
