William Farnorth was born in 1888 at Stalybridge, Lancashire and was the son of Samuel Ashton Farnorth and Annie Farnorth of 29 London Road, Nottingham. In the 1911 census he is shown as being 23 yrs of age and a Private with the 2nd battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment, he is in barracks in India.
Private William Farnorth enlisted at Reading whilst residing at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 25th September 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial
