Family History

William Arthur Williams was born in 1895 in Nottingham and was the son of the late Thomas Henry Williams a silk dye worker and Mary Ann Williams née Leavers. His father Thomas Henry Wiliiams was born in 1871 in Birmingham, he died in 1905 in Nottingham aged 33 yrs, his mother Mary Ann Leavers was born in 1873 in Nottingham, they went on to marry in 1892 in Nottingham, they had a further child Nellie b1903 also in Nottingham. After his fathers death his mother Mary Ann re married in in 1907 in Nottingham to Albert Taylor, he brought 2 children to the marriage William and Clara and they had a further child Florence b1908. In the 1911 census the family are living at 65 Huntingdon Street, Nottingham and are shown as Albert Taylor 39 yrs a cabman , he is living with his wife Mary Ann Taylor 35 yrs, William Arthur Williams 16 yrs an assistant engineer, William Taylor 11 yrs a scholar, Clara Taylor 10 yrs a scholar, Nellie Williams 8 yrs a scholar and Florence Taylor 2 yrs At the time of Williams death his address was 33 Marple Street, Nottingham.

Military History

Gunner William Arthur Williams enlisted at Nottingham and served with "A" battery , 125th brigade Royal Field Artillery. He died of wounds on 1/2nd July 1916 and is buried in Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt (grave ref. I.Q.10)
