Family History

Thomas William Siddons was born in 1882 at New Basford and was the son of George Henry Siddons a lacemaker and Emma Siddons née Barlow of 94 Northgate Basford,. His father George Henry was born in 1850 at Nottingham, he died aged 60 yrs in 1909 at Nottingham, his mother Emma Barlow was born in 1852 at Derby, they were married in 1872 at Nottingham and had the following children, George Henry b1875, Clara b1877 , Thomas William b1882 and Annie b1885 Thomas William married his wife Harriett Wray in 1904 at Nottingham, they had the following children all born in Basford, Alma b1906, Lizzie b1910 and Thomas William b1913 , they lived at 7 Gawthorne Terrace, Gawthorne Street, Basford, Nottingham. In 1911 census they lived at 7 Gawthorne Terrace Gawthorne Street New Basford Nottingham and were shown as Thomas William 28 yrs a road sweeper, he is living with his wife Harriett 28 yrs and their children, Alma 5 yrs and Lizzie 7 months. They later lived at 59 Trueman Street, Peashill Road, St Ann's, Nottingham

Military History

Rifleman Thomas William Siddons enlisted at Nottingham on 14th December 1914 , he gave his age as 32 yrs 9 months, his address as 7 Gawthorne Terrace, Gawthorne Street, Basford, Nottingham, he stated his occupation was that of a town labourer. He was posted to the King's Royal Rifle Corps and embarked for France on 19th May 1915. He was wounded in action on 14th September 1915, gun shot wounds to both thighs and returned to England on the Hospital Ship 'Brighton' on 21st September 1915. He was treated and recovered at Wharncliffe War Hospital, Middlewood Road, Sheffield until his release from there on 2nd November 1915. Following his discharge he was granted home leave until 11th November 1915. He once again embarked for France on 19th April 1916 and joined his unit in the field on 26th May 1916. He was killed in action on 21st August 1916 whilst serving with the 7th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He is buried at Quarry Cemetery, Mountauban, Somme, France
