Frank Ernest Sanderson was born in 1899 at Nottingham and was the only child of Frank Ernest a chamoise leather dresser and Elizabeth Sanderson née Attenborough of 20 Comyn Street Great Freeman Street Nottingham. His father Frank Ernest was born in 1874 in Nottingham and his mother Elizabeth Attenborough was born in 1878 at Kilamarsh, Derbyshire, they were married in 1897 in Nottingham, they had a further child which died in infancy. In the 1911 census the family are living at 9 South End Cottages, Turner Street, Nottingham and are shown as Frank Ernest 37 yrs a chamoise leather dresser, he is living with his wife Elizabeth a lace dresser and their son Frank Ernest 11 yrs. They state that they have been married for 13 yrs and have had 2 children, 1 of whom has died.
Private Frank Ernest Sanderson enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 21st battalion The Price of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) he died at Casualty Clearing Station, France on 6th January 1919 and is buried in the Valenciennes (St Roch) Communal Cemetery (grave ref II.B.14).

On January 6th at a clearing station, France, Private F Sanderson, son and only child of F and E Sanderson, 15 Comyn Street, age 19 yrs' In memoriam published 6th January 1920 ;- “SANDERSON. – In loving memory of Pte. Frank Sanderson, who died at a clearing station, France, January 6th, 1919.
