Family History

Edwin Robinson was born in 1884 at Beeston the son of William a foreman shunter on the Midland Railways and the late Bridget Robinson nee Kelly of 32 Church Street, Beeston. William was born in 1843 at Woolwich, Kent, Bridget Kelly was born in 1843 at Chelsea, she died in 1914 aged 72 yrs, they were married on 30th September 1866 at St John's Westminster and went on to have 12 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 William is living at 32 Church Street, Beeston, he is 68 yrs of age a widow and is a foreman shunter for the Midland Railways, he is living alone. His father died in 1911 aged 69 yrs. Edwin's next of kin upon his death was his married sister Florence Gillot of 19 Crocus Street, Nottingham.

Military History

Private Edwin Robinson enlisted on 12th January 1916 at Nottingham, giving his age as 32 yrs and 85 days, his occupation was that of a barman and his address was Grove Hotel, Lenton Boulevard, Nottingham he gave his religion as Roman Catholic. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 23rd March 1916 and posted to the Lincolnshire Regiment. He embarked on 20th July 1916 and was wounded (gun shot wound to his face on 28th August 1916 and died the same day. He is buried at Chocques Military Cemetery, France.
