George Thomas Peach was born in 1895 at Nottingham and was the son of George William a hackney carriage driver and his second wife Rachel Peach née Elliott of 13, Alison Rise, Great Alfred St., Nottingham. His father George William was born in 1865 at Melton Mowbray, he married his first wife Alexandra Mary Louisa Mitchell in 1887, they had a daughter Eleanor born in 1888. He went on to marry his second wife Rachel Elliott born 1870 Rotherby, Leicestershire in C1890, they went on to have the following children, Alice Lillian b1892 Barrow, Leicestershire George Thomas b1895, John Arthur b1898, William b1902 and Albert born 1905 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 7 Barkers Yard, Nottingham and are shown as George 46 yrs a hackney carriage driver, he is living with his wife Rachel 41 yrs andt heir children, Lillian 19 yrs an ironer, George Thomas 15 yrs a errand boy, Arthur 13 yrs an errand boy William 9 yrs a scholar and Albert 6 yrs of age.

Military History

Pte. George Thomas Peach enlisted at Nottingham on 13th February 1912, he gave his address as 7 Barkers Yard St Ann's, Nottingham, he gave his age as 17 yrs and 10 months and his occupation as that of a tailor. His next of kin was his father George William of the same address. He served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was embodied for war on 5th August 1914. He landed in France on 28th February 1915 and was wounded in action, a gun shot wound to the head on 28th August 1915, admitted to the 10th stationary hospital, he died of his wounds on 6th September 1915 at No 10 Stationary Hospital, St Omer. He is buried in Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery.
