Family History

George Meecham was born in 1895 and was the son of Thomas a traction engine driver and Charlotte Meecham, née Preseey 5 Clive Cottages, Clatterford Rd., Carisbrooke, Newport, Isle of Wight. Thomas was born in 1863 at Apse Heath, Charlotte Pressey was born in 1865 also at Apse Heath, they were married in 1893 on the Isle of Wight, Charlotte brought a child to the marriage, Frederick Pressey born 1888, they went on to have a further child a daughter Daisy b1894 Isle of Wight. In 1911 the family are living at Clatterford Road, Carrisbrooke the Isle of Wight.

Military History

Rifleman George Meecham enlisted at Newport, Isle of Wight whilst residing at Carrisbrook, Isle of Wight he served with the 1/8th battalion Hampshire Regiment. His first theatre of was was The Balkans where he landed on 10th August 1915, he was killed in action on the 12th August 1915 at Gallipoli, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.
