William Gunn

William Gunn was born in 1887 in Nottingham and was the son of William a orchestral musician and Mary Gunn née Hodgkinson of 1 Rutland Villas, Belvoir Hill, Sneinton. His father William was born in 1867 in Leicester and his mother Mary Hodgkinson was born in 1865 in Nottingham, they were married in 1886 in Nottingham and went on to have 9 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children all born in Nottingham were, William b1887, Florence b1892, Charles b1900. Edith b1901 and John b1904. In the 1911 census his family are living at 1 Rutland Villas, Belvoir Hill, Sneinton and are shown as William 44 yrs an orchestral musician, he is living with his wife Mary 46 yrs and their children, Florence 19 yrs a lace finisher, Charles 11 yrs a scholar, Edith 10 yrs a scholar and John 7 yrs. William Gunn married Hannah Marshall on 24th December 1910 at the Parish Church at Sneinton, they went on to have the following children, Muriel Winifred b 26th February 1912, Louis Howard b13th April 1913, Thelma b 1st September 1914 and Rose Helena b 1st November 1917, she died 23rd December 1917 aged 1 month. They lived at 38 Bangor Street, Nottingham. In the 1911 census William is living with his wife Hannah at Second Ave, Carlton, William is shown as being 23 yrs a printers paper ruler , his wife Hannah is shown as 2 4yrs.
