He was the son of Fanny Atkinson and the brother of Florence, William, Thomas, Edith and Walter Atkinson. In 1901, they lived at 1, Ashforth Street and in 1911 at 4, Conway Grove, Woodborough Road (both St Andrews Nottingham).
Frederick Atkinson enlisted at Nottingham and died of pneumonia. He is buried at Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Greece
