George Henry Parnell was born in 1897 at Nottingham and was the son James Parnell an iron foundry worker and Hannah Parnell née Blackwell James Parnell was born in 1868 at Great Cosby, Leicestershire, Hannah Blackwell was born 1873 at Ruddington, married in 1890 at Nottingham they had 3 children, Wilfred b1891, George Henry bb1898 and Beatrice May b1900. In 1901 the family are living at Florence Street, Nottingham, the family are James and Hannah and their children George Henry and Beatrice May, also lodging with the family is John Allcock 28 yrs. In 1911 George is living at 5 Chaucer Terrace, Harlaxton Street, Nottingham, he is living with John Allcock 38 yrs single and a joiner, his mother Hannah Parnell 38 yrs married is shown as a housekeeper, George Henry Parnell is 13 yrs of age and also with them is his sister Beatrice May Parnell 11 yrs. In 1911 his father James Parnell is living at 18 Launder Street, Nottingham, he is shown as being 43 yrs and married he is living with his widowed mother 79 year old Emily Parnell, and his son Wilfred 20 yrs a railway worker. Upon his enlistment George Henry Parnell used the name George Henry Allcock

Military History

Gunner George Henry Parnell enlisted as George Henry Allcock on 14th January 1915 at Nottingham giving his address at 5 Chaucer Terrace, Harlaxton Street, Nottingham his age as 19 yrs and 2 months and his occupation as a grocers assistant. His next of kin was his father John Allcock. He embarked from Southampton on 26th July 1915 and disembarked the following day at Le Harve. He died of pneumonia on 16th November 1918 in Rouen Hospital, France and was buried in St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen (grave ref. S.III.V).
