Charles Harrison was born Charles Delancey Harrison and was born in Hartford, Connecticut, United States of America in 1895 and was the son of Arthur Harrison an iron turner/fitter and Alice Maria Harrison née Drake. His father Arthur was born in 1870 in Birmingham and his mother Alice Maria Drake was born in 1870 in Leytonstone, Essex they were married in 1888 in Nottingham and went on to have the following children , Lilian b1890 Leicester, Florence born Hartford, Connecticut, USA Charles Delaney b1895 Hartford, Connecticut USA, Alice Edith b1897 Beeston and Arthur b1899 Sandiacre In the 1911 census the family are living at 52 Saville Street, Radford Road, Alice now 40 yrs has remarried as she is shown as the wife of William Godfrey 40 yrs b1871 West Hartlepool a coal porter, they state on the census that they have been married for 9 yrs and have had 3 children one of whom had died in infancy. The children from her first marriage are living with them and are shown as step children to William and are Florence Harrison 19 yrs a swiss lace maker, Charles Delancey Harrison 16 yrs a dropper straightener in a machine shop, Alice Edith Harrison 14 yrs , out of work and Arthur Harrison 12 yrs a scholar, also shown are their own 2 children Violet Beatrice Godfrey 4 yrs born Sandiacre and William Pelham Godfrey 6 months born Nottingham. The CWGC shows Charles as the son of Mrs. Alice Godfrey, of 3, Kirkstead St., Hyson Green, Nottingham.

Military History

Private Charles Harrison enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with service number 30874 in the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, he later transferred to the Royal Defence Corps, he died on 5th December 1917 and is buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery
