Family History

George Townsend was born in 1894 at Harby and was the son of William a gardeners labourer and his first wife Hannah Townsend néé Dixon of Littleworth, Harby His father William was born in 1864 at Wellingore, Lincolnshire, his mother Hannah Dixon was born in 1865 at Harby, she died in 1894 aged 29 yrs they were married in 1898 their marriage was recorded in the Newark registration area. His father went on to Marry Alice Almond in 1902 their marriage was recorded in the Newark registration district they went on to have the following children, William b1902 Harby, Florence b1907 Harby and Frederick b1911 Harby. In the 1911 census the family are living at Littleworth, Harby and were shown as William 47 yrs a gardeners labourer, he is living with his wife Alice 28 yrs and his children, George 16 yrs a gardeners labourer, William 8 yrs a scholar, Florence 4 yrs and Frederick 3 months of age.

Military History

Private George Townsend served with 2/4th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was discharged from the Army in 1916 and died at Newark A/M/J/1916.
