Family History

Albert Powis was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of Albert George Powis a carter and Annie Powis née Ward of 5 Parker Street, Radford. His father Albert George was born in 1877 at Radford, his mother Annie Ward was born in 1878 at Arnold, they were married in 1898 at Nottingham, they had 5 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood his surviving sibling was Lilly born 1905. In the 1911 census the family are living at 5 Parker Street, Radford, Albert George is 34 yrs a coal carter he is living with his wife Annie 33 yrs and their children, Albert 14 yrs a grocers assistant and Lily 6 years of age.

Military History

Rifleman Albert Powis enlisted at Nottingham wilst residing at Colchester, he served with the 9th battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 15th September 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
