Family history

Albert Snowden was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of William a lace dresser and Gertrude Snowden née Wilson Clay of 7 Lilac Street Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1866 at Nottingham, his mother Gertrude Wilson Clay was born in 1871 at Nottingham, they were married on 24th December 1887 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, Nottingham, they went on to have 10 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

At the time of the 1911 Census the family was living at 35 Devon Street Nottingham. William 45 yrs is a lace dresser he is living with his wife Gertrude 40 yrs and their 8 children: William (21), George (17), Jenny (14), Albert (13), Gertrude (11), Samuel (8), Edward (7) and Edith (3)

Military history

Private Albert Snowden enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, He was listed as missing for over a year until his death was confirmed (see obituary) on 16th August 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
