Family history

Charles William Newman (junior) was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of Charles William Newman (senior) and Fanny Newman née Boardman of 21 Moffatt Street,St Ann's, Nottingham.

His fathe Charles William (senior) was born in 1861 at Bottisham, Camridgeshire, his mother Fanny Boardman was born in 1871 at Manchester, they were married on 9th October 1897 at St Pauls Church, Nottingham, they had 3 children, 

At the time of the 1911 census Charles 50 yrs is a carpenter, and his wife, Fanny 40yrs a lace curtain machinist, were living at 22 Wickens Terrace, Livingstone Street, Nottingham. Living with them were their three children, Charles 12 yrs John A 10 yrs and Doris M 7 yrs and Charles' sister-in-law, Nelly Boardman 26 yrs, single, cigar sorter.

Military history

Private Charles William Newman attested 14 June 1916 at Nottingham, giving his address as 22 Wickens Terrace, Livingstone Street, Nottingham, he was a whitesmiths apprentice, his next of kin was his mother Fanny of the same address he was posted to the reserves.
He was mobilsedon 7th February 1917 and initially served with the Roayl Army Service Corps with the service number M/288188 , he landed in France on 18th August 1917. He was killed in action on 3rd September 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
