Family history

John William Harry Marriott known as 'Harry' was baptised on 13th June 1894 at St Thomas Church, Nottingham, he was the son of William an iron moulder and Kate Marriott née Palmer of Carlton Road, Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1860 at Colston Bassett, his mother Kate Palmer was born in 1856 at Luton, Bedford they were married in 1878 at Nottingham, they had 10 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Duke Terrace, Dawson Street, Nottingham, William 51 yrs is an iron moulder, he is living with his wife Kate 55 yrs and their children, Harry 16 yrs a grocers assistant and Kate 13 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private John William Harry Marriott, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 24th September 1915. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate.

2nd Nottingham Boys' Brigade ROH lists him as 'Private JW Marshall'.
