Family history

Albert Keward was born in 1898 at Nottingham he was the son of Richard Henry Keward, a goods porter and Sarah Ann Keward née Walker of 5, Dakeyne St., Carlton Rd., Nottingham

His father Richard Henry was born in 1876 at Nottingham, his mother Sarah Ann Walker was born in 1874 at Nottingham, they were married on 3rd June 1895 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, Nottingham they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Daykeyne Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham, Richard Henry 35 yrs is a goods porter he is living with his wife Sarah Anne 37 yrs and their children, Albert 13 yrs an errand boy, May 10 yrs and Lily 9 yrs of age.

Military history

Private Albert Keward enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number of 3940, serving in A Company, Sherwood Foresters Regiment .He served in France from 27 October 1915. He was reported in the Red Cross Enquiry List of 1 September 1916 listed as missing 1 July 1916 following the attack on Gommecourt on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Qualified for the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
