Family history

Arthur Noel Eyre, was born in 1893 at Chesterfield, he was baptised on 23rd Febraury 1893 at Holy Trinity Church, Chesterfield, he was the son of John Isaac a furniture manufacturer and Eliza Eyre née Hill.

His father was born in 1861 at Chesterfield, his mother Eliza Hill was born in 1856 at Chesterfield, they were married on 5th July 1880 at Holy Trinity Church, Chesterfield, they went on to have 9 children, sadly two were to die in inancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at Highfield Road, Chesterfield, John Isaac 53 yrs is a furniture manufactuer he is living with his wife Eliza 51 ys and their children, Dorothy Mabel 23 yrs working at home, Gladys Annie 20 yrs working at home, Arhtur Noel 18 yrs a furniture salesman and Charles Isaac 13 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Second Lieutenant Arthur Noel Eyre initially served with the 6th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment beofre transferring to the Royal Flying Corps,

He was killed in action on 26 Sep 1918 • Cambrai, Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France

H was observer officer in a DH4 no D8419 piloted by Lieutenant Timson, on a bombing mission against the Hindenburg line, he was shot down over Cambrai by Lt Fritz Rumey of Jasta 5, no known grave. His name is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial.

He is commemorated on the family memorial at Spital graveyard

He is commemorated with a stained glass window at Our Lady and All Saints Church, Chesterfield
