Family history

Cyril Ramsay Cook was born on 10th February 1898 he was the son of Frank a chartered accountant and Sybil Cook née Ramsay of Endcliffe Caterham Valley Surrey.

His father was born in 1863 at London, his mother Sybil Ramsay was born in 1875 at Bishop Stortford, they were married on 28th January at Christ Church, Cheltenham, they had 4 children, in the 1911 census the family are living at The Mount, Bishop Stortford, Frank 48 yrs is a chartered accountant, he is living with his wife Sybil 36 yrs and their son Bernard Prescott Cook 9 yrs of age.

In the same 1911 census he is at school in at Riverhead, Sevenoaks, Kent he is 13 yrs of age and is a pupil

Military history

Second Lieutenant Cyril Ramsay Cook initially enlisted with service number 39119 in the Royal Wst Surrey Regiment, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 1st March 1917 and joined the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment at Bapaume, France 25th April 1917.

He was killed in action, 9th June 1917, aged 19, in the attack at Wytschaete, near Ypres, Belgium having no know grave his naem is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Panel 39 and 41.
