Ernest Cooper was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of Frederick a carter and Sarah Ann Cooper née Lockwood of 21 South Street Sneinton Nottingham and the brother of Mabel, Ada, Frederick and Lily Cooper.

His father Fred was born in 1873 at Nottingham, his mother Sarah Ann Lockwood was born in 1875 at Nottingham, they were marrried in 1894 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly were to die in nfancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 21 South Street, Sneinton, Nottinghasm, Fred 38 yrs is a carter, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 36yrs and

Military history

Private ERnest Coopr enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, formerly 4th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (service number 4944) he was killed in action on 30th August 1915 aged 17 yrs . He is buried in Y Farm Military Cemetery, Bois-Grenier.

“COOPER. – In loving memory of Private E. Cooper, of the Northamptons, killed in action August 30th, 1915, aged 17. He left his country quite prepared, his fair young life to give; he bravely answered duty's call, his life he gave for one and all. Sleep on, dear brother, in a hero's grave, a grave we may never seen, but as long as life and memory last we will always remember thee. – From mother, grandmother, sisters, brother, and father in France.”
