Family history

Charles Henry Fergus Powell was baptised on 12th May 1890 at Sneinton, Nottingham, he was the son of the late Richard Powell a labourer and Sarah Ann Powell of Bramcote Place, Willoughby Street, Lenton.

His mother remarried in 1900 at Nottingham to William Hicking

In the 1911 census his family are living at 3 Brussels Terrace, Nottingham, William Hicking 52 yrs a blacksmiths striker is living with his wife Sarah Ann Hicking 54 yrs and their childre, William Hicking 15 yrs, an apprentice blacksmith striker, Frederick Hicking 9 yrs of age (an invalid)

Charles lived at 16 Bramcote Place Willoughby Street Lenton.

In the 1911 census he has left the family home and has joined the Army, he is living in barracks at Plympton, Devon he is 21 yrs of age and serving with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment.
