George Platts (junior) was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of George Platts (senior) and Annie Platts née Emery and the brother of James, Violet, Mabel, Lily and Daisy Platts.

His father George (senior) was born in 1859 at Nottingham, his mother Annie Emery was born in 1864 at Islington, London, they were married in 1882 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children,

In the 1911 census the family lived at 18 Alderney Street Lenton Nottingham George 52 yrs is a coalminer fireman, he is living wit his wife Annie 47 yrs and their children, George 28 yrs a bottle filler, James 22 yrs a venician blind maker, Violet 20 yrs a pattern girl, Mable 17 yrs a machinist, Lilly 14 yrs an errand girl and Daisy 12 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private George Platts enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 27th September 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial Dud Corner Panel 97 and 98
