Family history

Walter George Mottishaw was born in 1893 at Lenton, Nottingham, he was the son of Robert a carter and Elizabeth Mottishaw née Walker and the brother of Herbert, Beatrice, Arthur and Frederick Mottishaw they lived at Captain Albert Ball VC Memorial Homes Lenton Nottingham.

His father Robert was born in 1854 at Kinoulton, his mother Elizabeth Walker was born in 1855 at Thrussington, Leicestershire, they were married in 1874 their marriage was recorded in the Barrow Upon Soar registration district they went on to have 9 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 24 Church Street Lenton Nottingham. Robert 57 yrs is a carter, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 56 yrs and their children, Herbert 26 yrs a domestic gardener, Beatrice 24 yrs a shop assistant, Arthur 21 yrs a domestic gardener, Walter 18 yrs a clerk and Frederick 11 yrs.

Walter George married Elizabeth Elliott (born 2nd April 1892) on 22nd December 1912 in St Ann’s Nottingham, they lived at 10 Carver Street, Hyson Green, they had a daughter Dorothy born 6th April 1913.

Commencing 10th July 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.

Military history

Rifleman Walter George Mottishaw enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he died of his wounds on 3rd January 1916 at the National Hospital, London,.he is buried at Holy Trinity Churchyard, Lenton, Nottingham
