Family history

Ernest John Haskins was born in 1895 at Poole, he was the son of Frederick a rope maker and his first wife Emily Jane Haskins née Richards.

His father Frederick was born in 1861 at Melksham, Wiltshire, his mother Emily Jane Richards was born in 1863 at Melksham she died in 1896 at Poole, they were married on 9th November 1884 at St Pauls Church, Poole, they had 5 children, Clifford Herbert (died of wounds 17th November 1916) , Frederick George, Reginald Frank, Harry George,

Frederick went on to marry Martha Sarah Holloway born 1864 at Poole , they were married in 1897 at Poole they had 3 children, Harold Edwin, Arthur Gladstone and Elsie Haskins.

In 1901 the family lived at 16 Queen Street and in 1911 at 2 Morden Cottages West Butt (both Poole Dorset).

In the 1911 census the family are living at 2 Morden Cottages, West Butt, Poole Frederick Haskins 50 yrs is a rope maker, he is living with his wife Martha 47 yrs and their children, Clifford 18 yrs a miller, Ernest 16 yrs a tile maker, Harold 12 yrs a scholar and Elsie 4 yrs of age.

Military history

Private Ernest John Haskins enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 8th battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he was killed in action on 15th July 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial Pier and Face 2 C and 3 A
