Family history

Robert Hanson was born in 1878 at Trowell, Nottingham, he was the son of Robert Soar Hanson a machinst clerk and Anne Hanson née Sadler of 9 Station Road Codnor Park Derbyshire.

His father Robert Soar was born in 1851 at Codnor Park, Derbyshire, his mother Anne Sadler was born in 1854 at Rounds Green, Oldbury, Staffordshire, they were married on 27th January 1873 at Dudley, Worcestershire, they went on to have 7 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 9 Forge Row, Codnor Park,Alfreton, Robert Soar 60 yrs is a machinst clerk he is living with his wife Anne 57 yrs and their children, John William 28 yrs a foundry crane driver and Evelyn May 18 yrs an office clerk.

Robert was the husband of Emma Elizabeth Glover (born 22nd October 1881) they were married on 1st August 1904 at Lenton Priory Church, they had a daughter Edna Madeline Hanson born 19th June 1906

In the 1911 census the family lived at 1 Frederick Grove, Lenton and later 57 Bute Avenue (both Lenton Sands Nottingham) Robert Hanson 33 yrs an insurance agent he is living with his wife Emma Elizabeth 29 yrs and their daughter Edna Madeline 4 yrs old.

Commencing 7th April 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Private Robert Hanson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 20th September 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En- Arois Memorial, Pas de Calais France Panel 3 France
