Family history

John Samuel Flewitt also known as Samuel was born in 1883 at Lenton Nottinmgham he was the son of John Samuel Flewitt a carriage hand and Sarah Flewitt née Johnson of 15 Grove Road, Lenton.

His father John Samuel was born in 1849 at Chilwell, his mother Sarah Johnson was born in 1851 at Radford, they were married in 1871 at Radford, they went on to have 7 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 15 Grove Road, Lenton, Samuel 63 yrs is a carriage hand, he i living with his wife Sarah 61 yrs and their children Albert 38 yrs a painters labourer and Samuel 27 yrs single a window cleaner.

Military history

Private John Samuel Flewitt enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Lincoln, he served with the C Battery 9th Brigade Royal field artillery, he was killed in action on 4th October 1917, he is buried at The Huts Cemetery West Vlaanderen Belgium Grave Reference: 10.A.17
