Herbert Dudley

Herbert Dudley was born in 1896 at Radford, he was the son of the late Enoch a coal miner Mary Dudley née Briggs and the brother of John Ernest Dudley.

His father Enoch was born in 1851 at Wolverhampton, he died in 1916 at Belper, he was 64 yrs old, his mother Mary Briggs was born in 1857 at Mayhey, Derbyshire they were married on 24th October 1875 a Tibshelf they went on to have 11 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 64 Gregory Street Old Lenton Nottingham Mary Dudley 54yrs is head of the family and is married she is living with her children, Francis 21 yrs a cycle hand, John 19 yrs a skinners labourer, Herbert 14 yrs a skinners labourer.

In the same 1911 census his father Enoch 60 yrs is a coal miner is living at 68 Blunt Street, Smalley Common, Derbyshire, he is living with his married daughter Elizabeth Creswell 31 yrs and her husband Albert Cresswell 35 yrs a coal miner and their 3 daughters.

Herbert married Hannah Hall (born 19th April 1896) they were married on 25th November 1913 they lived at 64 Gregory Street, Lenton, Nottingham, they had a son John Ernest born 6th March 1915.

Commencing 25th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

His widow later remarried to become Mrs Robinson and lived at 2 Churchill Street, Old Lenton.
