Family history

Thomas Anthony Draycott was born in 1887 at Whetstone, Leicestershire, he was the son of Thomas Phippds a farmer and Sarah Draycott née Riley and the brother of Harriett, Frank, Ida Dorothy, William Henry and Walter Draycott.

His father Thomas Phipps was born in 1850 at Whetstone, Leicester, his mother Sarah Riley was born in 1849 at Blaby, Leicester, they were married in 1871 at Blaby, Leicestershire, they had 9 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 49 Tyne Street Park Road New Lenton Nottingham Thomas POhipps 60 yrs is a retired farmer, he is livingwith his wife Sarah 62 yrs and their children Thomas Anthony 24 yrs a litho carbon mixer in the printing trade, William Henry 22 yrs a railway plate layer, Walter 16 yrs an apprentice iron moulder,

Military history

Private Thomas Anthony Draycott enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 12th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 22nd March 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial Panels 52 to 54
