Horace Cocking

Horace Cocking was born in 1887 at Steetley, Sheffield, he was the son of Thomas a hay turner and Emily Anne Cocking née Webster and the brother of Annie, Nellie, Bernard, Gertrude, Thomas, May and John Ethers Cocking. They lived at 1 Woodville Place Bloomsgrove Street New Radford Nottingham.

His father Thomas was born in 1857 at Attercliffe Sheffield, his mother Emily Ann Webster was born in 1856 at Worksop, they were married on 10th April 1878 at St Peters Church, Sheffield, they went on to have 11 chldren, sadly 3 were to die in ifnfancy or early childhood,

In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Woodville Place, Bloomsgrove Street, Radford, Nottingham, Thomas 54 yrs is a hay turner he is living with his wife Emily Ann 54 yrs and their children, Annie 31 yrs no occupation listed, Nellie 28 yrs a cotton hand, Horace 23 yrs a hay turner, Bernard 20 yrs a labourer, Gertrude 17 yrs a cotton hand, Thoma 15 yrs a cotton spinner, May 13 yrs of age and John 10 yrs of age.

He was the husband of Alice Seaton (born 6th February 1888) the were married on 5thFebruary 1910 at All Souls Church, Radford, they lived at 4 Commercial Street, Old Lenton, they had the following children, Ada Ellen born 13th August 1910, Alice born 4th November 1911, Horace Arthur born 10th January 1914, and Emily Annie Cocking born 7th May 1916, They later lived at 1 Peverill Terrace Old Church Street Lenton Nottingham.

Commencing 2nd December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 9 pence a week.
