John Richard Screeton was born in 1886 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late John Screeton a labourer and Catherine Screeton née Garton of Notingham.
His father John was born in 1855 at Nottingham he died in 188 at Nottingham he was 33 yrs of age, his mother Catherine Garton was born in 1862 at Molton Seas End, Lincolnshire she died in 1893 at Nottingham she was 45 yrs old. They were married in 1875 at Nottingham, they had 5 children, sadly 1 wasto die in infancy or early childhood his siblings were Eliza b1871, John b1880 died 1880, Catherine b1881 and Maria b1882.
In the 1901 census he was resident at the Nottingham Training Institution for Pauper Children in Radford Nottingham.
In the 1911 census John has joined the Army, he is shown as being 23 yrs single serving withthe 1st battalion South Lancashire Regiment, he is Napier Barracks Lahonbant
Private John Richard Screeton enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 26th September 1916 He is buried at Vermelles British Cemetery, France. Plot 5. Row E. Grave 2.
