Family history

William Imisson was born on 14th January 1896 at Cleethorpes, Lincolnshir, he was the son of Walter a joiner and Alice Imisson née Millington and the brother of Gertrude, Alice, Richard, Albert and Edward Imisson.

His father Walter was born in 1862 at Swinton, Yorkshire, his mother Alice Imisson was born in 1864 at Wath upon Dearne, Yorkshire, they were marrid i 1887 at Rotherham, they went on to have 6 children,

In the 1911 censu the family ived at 16 Alderney Street Grove Road Lenton Nottingham, Walter 49 yrs a joiner is living wth his wife Alice 47 yrs and their children, Gertrude 22 yrs a chemist book keeprs clerk, Alice 19 yrs a stationary packer, Richard 17 yrs a shop assistant in a pawn brokers, William 15 yrs an assistant printer, Albert 13 yrs a scholar, and Edward 9 yrs of age a scholar.

An 'A Imisson' was listed on the Alderney Street Roll of Honour as having served in the 7th Bn Sherwood Foresters and wounded 'on foreign service.' It is likely that he was William's brother, Albert, and survived the war.

Military history

Lance Corporal William Imisson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regimenthas he went to France on 25th Febraury 1915, he was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. having no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
