Family history

Harold George Cheetham was born in 1893 at Cropwell Bishop, he was the son of George a farmer and his second wife Elizabeth Ann Cheetham née Briggs and the brother of Lillie Kathleen and Arthur William (killed in action 21/3/1918) Cheetham.

His father George was born in 1842 at Lenton, his mother Elizabeth Ann Briggs was born in 1863 at Nottingham, they were married on 17th May 1888 at St Matthews Church, Nottingham, they went o to have 3 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 32 Beeston Road Dunkirk Old Lenton Nottingham George 69 yrs is a retired farmer he is living with his wife Elizabeth Ann 48 yrs and their children, LilleKathleen 21 yrs a showroom assistant, Harold George 18 yrs a lace warehouseman and Arthur William 14 yrs a lace warehouseman, also living with the family is Elizabeth Briggs 83 yrs a widow and mother in law.

Military history

Rifleman Harold George Cheetham enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 11th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 24th August 1916, he is buried at Dantzig Alley British Cemetery, Mametz, Somme, France 9.V.9
