Harold Thomas Maltby was born in 1889 at Beeston, he was the son of Arthur a railway clerk and Ada Annie Maltby née Baker and the brother of Arthur, Ethel, Frank, William and Florence Maltby.

His father Arthur was born in 1865 at Nottingham, his mother AdaAnnie Baker was born in 1864 at Nottingham,they were married in 1887 at Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children.

In 1901 the family lived at 21 Beeston Road Lenton Nottingham.

In the 1911 census we find Harold Thomas Maltby has joined the Army he is shown as Harold Thomas Maltby 21 yrs of age a drummer in the infantry of the line at barracks at Normanton,Derbyshire.

Military history

Corporal Harold Thomas Maltby enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)

Commemorated: Arras Memorial, France. Bay 7.
